Justin on the pace in pre-season testing

Justin quickly gelled with his crew and engineer and the No. 22 Z-Line Designs car ended the final session of a chilly first day with the third quickest time of 1:10.7397 (117.049 mph), a shade off the pace-setting Team Penske cars of Ryan Briscoe (1:10.5020, 117.438 mph) and Helio Castroneves (1:10.7146). Justin’s day ended a bit prematurely late in the day when he brushed the wall coming out of turn one. The car wasn't badly damaged and Justin will be back out on track again today.

"The first day in the car was really good,” said Justin. “It was a pretty positive day and we kept making improvements. All in all I think that it went well and I'm pleased with P3. I'm getting comfortable in the car and with my new engineer and crew. Unfortunately, at the end of the day I just clipped the grass going into turn one and the car snapped around on me. The car isn't too badly damaged and I'm okay. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

Mike Conway was able to log a number of laps and get some valuable track time in the No. 24 Dad’s Root Beer car, but struggled to find the right balance on the car, rounding out the first day with the 17th fastest time of 1:12.1543.

Despite a late start due to the second day bescause of very cold weather, Justin ran 78 laps, posting the fifth fastest time of the session (1:10.0869, 118.139 mph) behind the Penske cars of Will Power (1:09.8724, 118.502 mph), Helio Castroneves (1:10.0084) and Ryan Briscoe (1:10.0459) and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon (1:10.0594). Mike Conway also had a productive day to finish seventh on the time sheets (1:10.2497).

“The Barber test went quite well,” said Justin. “We were quick early on and we just continued to work through a few changes. Right at the end of the second day we set our quickest lap, which was on the end lap, and finally I got what I was looking for. I’m looking forward to our next test and then on to Brazil.”
